Japanese ecommerce giant, Rakuten, gives $100 million funding to Pinterest

bNews on Social Marketing, according to Brafton News, after being valued at $1.5 billion, Pinterest, the social sharing and bookmarking website got $100 million in funding from Japanese ecommerce giant Rakuten. Brands using the site for social marketing could avail of Pinterest ecommerce capabilities.

Due to its focus on visual content, Pinterest marketing continues to add users to its website. It also gives B2Ccompanies an alternative in social media marketing through infographics.

Rakuten’s investment to the site could lead to one of the most successful social ecommerce that join visual marketing with the ability to purchase what you see directly from Pins.

A potential selling solution on Pinterest could make the site for ecommerce companies an attractive social media marketing tool. “The platform’s goal is to help people discover things they love, by connecting people through their shared interests,” announced Ben Silbermann, CEO of Pinterest.

However, a report from Brafton showed that the growth of Pinterest has slowed down a bit with Shareaholic data saying Pinterest delivered small referral traffic in April than it did in March. With an increase on people becoming members on the site, there is also a decrease on the rate at which it has added new users.

Sponsored Results allow businesses divert traffic from each other

News on Facebook Marketing, according to Tech Crunch, years ago, Facebook made a deal with Microsoft to let it place ads at the bottom of the search results page. Now, Facebook is taking control and offering a fully-owned platform for search ads.

A new format of search ads called Sponsored Results is being tested by Facebook, which practically allow businesses divert traffic from each other. Advertisers can now show ads in the Facebook search typeahead to users looking for a particular Page, app, or Place. Sponsored Results could be huge for Facebook in generating ad dollars from direct advertisers with something to sell.

The Sponsored Results will not appear on the full Facebook Search results page, only in the typeahead search box atop every page with a tiny word “Sponsored”.

Users searching for any Page, app and Place are targeted by Facebook’s Sponsored Results which will be sold on a cost per click basis.

Since Sponsored Results are not keyword ads, advertisers need to target a specific entity on Facebook and not something broad like games or cameras. For example, Sponsored Results could be targeted to people searching for “CityVille”, or “Nikon Camera”.
