Texting While Walking Will be Fined In US Town

News on Social Marketing, according to Sky News HD, texting on mobile phones while walking will be fined by police in a US town. This was imposed following an increase in the number of jaywalking incidents where pedestrians illegally or recklessly cross roads and ignoring the marked routes.

According to officers in Fort Lee New Jersey, this is a big risk of making people’s lives in danger and making them prone to vehicular accidents for not focusing on the road.

Police patrols are being stationed to search for “dangerous” walkers, who are violating the rules of the road. Leaflets are being distributed as a warning for pedestrians of the crackdown.

At a news conference, Fort Lee Police chief Thomas Ripoli said, “It’s a big distraction since pedestrians are not watching where they’re going and they’re not aware.”

So far, over 20 people have been reported being hit by cars in Fort Lee this year. In the previous month and a half, a minimum of 117 tickets was issued for jaywalking offence, demanding a fine of $85.
