More than 70% of Consumers Use Alternate Electronic Devices to View Video Content

News on Social Marketing, according to San Francisco Chronicle, according to the recent Global TV Replacement Study conducted by NPD DisplaySearch, consumers using tablets like the iPad and Android devices for viewing TV/video content, more than doubled in 14 regional markets they have surveyed. This is due to the increase of the use of tablets in these markets.

Turkey has the largest increase in tablet use with a 3.1 percent growth in 2011 to 16.5 percent in 2012. Germany, France and the U.S. also see a significant increase in its tablet usage.

The survey revealed that more than 70% of consumers are using other electronic devices such as tablets, smart phones, notebook PCs, MP3 players and desktop computers to view TV/video content. Because of the large penetration of wireless networks in emerging markets like China, Indonesia, Russia and Turkey, consumers view content on their mobile devices such as smart phones while tablets and notebook PCs are mostly used by consumers in the U.S., the U.K. and Germany.

However, despite the increase on tablets and alternate smart devices usage, 30 percent of consumers on these countries surveyed say that TVs is still the primary device of choice for viewing TV/video content with LCD dominating global markets as the flat panel technology of choice.
